Understanding Kerf
Kerf is the material lost to the blade or cutting tool. Entering it correctly prevents real-world shortages.
How Kerf Is Counted
Kerf is added only between pieces on the same stock. One piece uses zero kerf, two pieces use one kerf, and three pieces use two kerfs.
Formula
Used length = sum of piece lengths + (number of pieces - 1) x kerf
Usable length = stock length - 2 x margin
Choosing a Value
Use the actual blade width or cutting loss of your machine. If work needs extra tolerance, enter a slightly larger value.
